Tuose immediately concerned in tbe Perthehire are confident that the steamer will turn op, or bo piokrd np in a few days Be a ‘lame dock.' Meanwhile tbe Hinemoa will make en examination of the coast from Hokilika to Big Bay. Tbe ceptain of the Hawere, from .Greymonth to the Bluff, has been instructed to keep a sharp look ont, nod if necaaaary to nuke n oloae aearoh of the abore.
The captain of the Waneka, leaving Newcastle for Lyttleton on Monday, haa been ordered to zigzag across the eonrae followed by the Perthshire and will come southward through Foreanx Straita. The ownere and underwriters are certain that theee preoantions are ae certain of encceaa aa if a special ateamer were sent.
[The well known Shire liner Perthehire baa either met with aome pheoomen ally bed weather or eomething has gone wrong with her machinery, the latter suggestion being the more probable oame of her .lengthy trip from Sydney to the Bluff. She took aboard a quantity of meat at Brisbane, called into Sydoey for banker coal, and left again on thn 26th ult. for the Blnff, the intention being to complete her eergo for London at the southern ports of New Zealand. Tbe Perthshire ia a very fine atamp of a modern oargo steamer of 3623 net aud 5550 groas tone register. She was built in the year 1893 by Meiers B. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Co, Limited, of Newoaatle, for Messrs Turnbull, Martin and Co, repreaenting tbe Elderalie Steamship Company. Her dimensions ere Length 420 ft, breadth of beam 54ft, depth of hold 28ft Bin, moulded depth 32ft. Her three oylindeia measure 38in, 48in, and 78in respectively, with a 54in stroke. She is fitted through out with thoroughly up-to-date cargo carrying appliaocos, and ie insulated for tbe carriage of an enormous quantity of frozen meat. The Perthshire ia regiatered at Glasgow.]
