TAKAPAU.

(own correspondent) A social was held in Mny’s Hall, on Wednesday evening last in aid of the Hawke’s Bay Flood Relief Fund. The night was boisterous, consequently the attendance was not so largo as it wonld have been under more favorable Gircum stancos. The entertainment provided, consisted of songs and dances. Misses Stewart, Martin, Isaacson, Mrs U Hobson aod Mr lagpen contributed the former and the accompaniments were played by Mrs O. Hobson and Mrs H. H. Russell. For the dances Mr F. Tucker acted as M 0., aud Mr P. Grant provided the music from an acaordeon. All these ladies and geutlemen gave every satisfaction and their services were ranch appreciated. The refreshments, provided by the ladies of Takapau, consisting of tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches, etc, were of the best and for the quantity, well, there was sufficient to have sapplied the -wants of double the number present. Meadames Elliogbam, Arrow, and O. Hobßon capably presided over the refreshment department Meears Ingpen and W. Effingham gave valuable aid in promoting the social and endeavouring to make everyone enjoy themselves. The piano was kindly lent by Mre Sydney Johnston. I learn that the total takings were £8 16s, and the expenses about £1 ss, so that the Flood
