Intelligence from Calcutta, under date Sept. 30th, informs us among other items that an officer of the ! Ameer of Afghanistan at Aluinsjed (refused to allow the British to pass, and crowned the heights which command the the pass with his followers, i After three hours interview' with the officer, in which he warned him that the act would be regarded as the act of the Ameer himself, Major Cavagnare, commanding the advance escort of the mission to Cabul, proceeded to Jamrood. The immediate object of the Viceroy is to make it clearly understood that he has not quarrelled with the Afghanistan people, and to win over all the border tribes. Major Cavagnare repeatedly warned ! the Afghanistan officers that the Ameer j would be held responsible, and the ! officer, in the presence of two Indian | ! princes attached to the mission, exI pressed his unflinching determination ! to forcibly resist. No doubtheisacting under full instructions from the Ameer, as two of the responsible officers, who arc also believed to be in direct communication with the Russian embassy, recently arrived at Alumsjeb. The mission envoy is i still residing at Cabul.
