The distress is fearful, and their r sources are exhausted, and they appeal in God’s name for assistance to alleviate tin* sufferings of their aillicted brethren. The Lusitarinn Portuguese Benevolent Association and the German Benevolent Association each makes a similar appeal to its respective organisations throughout the Union for assistance. Washington, August 31.—The official report of the Surgeon-General of the Marine Hospital Service for last week was completed at two o'clock, and shows a melancholy death-roll for the week. In New Orleans to date there have been a total of 2,877 cases and 807 deaths; at Vicksburg there are now 800 cases, half of which have occurred in the last week, and f>o more in the last 24 hours.
