THE MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Sir, — * -»e way in whictPmiitore in the Resident Magistrate’s Court liere and their witnesses are treated is simply monstrous. The other dav the Magistrate concluded liis business and postponed a number of cases until a future day without any apparent reason, and to-day he has done so because he has to attend a court at 11 or 12 to-morrow. There is no reason for thi< postponement, for by sitting during the afternoon he could easily reach Napier or Havelock by to-morrow’s morning train. Duly for the sake of his comfort, a iniiiiher of people, many of whom travelled thirty miles to the court, and lose three days by it, Ivesides expenses of themselves and witnesses, arc* put off for a month. By that time tlieir debtors may l>e flown, and their chance of getting their money lost. The off-hand manner in which the thing is done, too, would lead one to suppose that the public were ordained for the convenience of the magistrate, and not the magistrate appointed for the public benelit. Trusting soon to see a change for the l»etter, 1 am, &c., A SUFFERER. Waipawa, October 8.
