FitzGladiator was sire of Palestro, Gabrielie d’Estress, Mon Etoile, Orphelin, Goutram (winner of the French Derby), Vertugadin, and Montagard (winner of the Caen Handicap). Fitz-Gladiator’s dam by Reveller, g. grand-dam by Rubens. Fitz-Gladiator won the Ghent Derby. Extract from “ Bell’s Life,” of March 28tli, 1874, on the Sires of the Season : “ The Gladiators.—l should never leave off meddling with the Gladiator blood if there was any to be found within a three or four days’journey, and at a comeatable figure. I am sure it is no bad advice to breeders to keep the Gladiator sort always in view, and the great point is where to get it in the nearest form to the old horse. The Fitz-Gladiators are mostly big horses.” Sator is seven years old, in color a rich chestnut, and has an unexceptionally good constitution ; stands 16 hands 2 inches high, with great bone and substance, combined with such good knee action as is seldom seen in a thoroughbred. Terms :—lO guineas each mare ; two or more mare as per agreement. Groom age fee, ss, to be paid at time of service. Mares must be removed and paid for on notice of stinting being given, after which a charge of 5s per week will be made. First-class paddocks provided. Every care taken but no responsibility. <S£ rrtO STAND THIS SEASON AT JL WAIPUKURAU, The Pure Thoroughbred Clydesdale Entire LiofCZ> JLiORNE. Lord Lorne is positively limited 1 rtf’ .60 mares. On Friday will leave for Waipawa and Kaikoru, remaining'at Kaikora Friday night, and returning to Waipukurau on Saturday. Lord Lorne was bred by John Mitchell, Esq., Ballyminack, Campbeltown ; he is by Sir Garibaldi ; dam, Jess, a pure-bred Clydesdale mare, who for three years in succession was distinguished as a first prize taker at the Campbeltown Agricultural Society’s Shows; her dam ulso gained four first prizes in succession as a brood mare at the same society’s shows. Sir Garibaldi was awarded the premium of £4O to serve in the Gaithouse of Keet District in 1856 ; in 1857, £3O for Carlisle ; in 1858, £4O for Dumfennliue ; and he was afterwards sold to serve in the Campbeltown Agricultural Society’s District; Sir Garibaldi is by Garibaldi, who gained the first prize as a three-year-old at the Perth Highland Society’s meeting in 1850. Lord Lorne lias, as a two-year old, distinguished himself as a prize taker, having taken first prize at Kirkintulloch Show ; third at the Glasgow Agricultural Society’s Show; third at the Highland Society’s Show at Kelso ; and first at the Deymin Society’s Show. As a threc-yeur-old (and shown soon after landing in New Zealand) was sec ond to Prince Charlie at the Christchurch Show (the largest iu the colony). As a five-year-old, first piize at the Hawkes’ Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Show. As a six-year-old, second at the Wanganui Show (being beaten only by the invincible Lofty, who was never beaten in a show ground), and last season, at Wanganui, second to Lofty, and first prize and champion at the ltangitikeiManawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Show. Lorne is a beaubtiful dapple bay, with black points, splendid action, fine bone, good mild temper ; and possessing all the qualifications of a pure bred Clydesdale. | |Terms —6 guineas, payable on January Ist, 1879.
