Swearing in the Commons.
SILENT SYMPATHY. London, May 10. The dcputy-Speaker, Mr Emmott, and 200 members of the House of Commons have sworn allegiance to the new King. King George and Queen Mary drove to Victoria Station and met King Haakon and Queen Maud of Norway amidst silent crowds. The King has invited the Kaiser to reside at Buckingham Palace during his stay in England, and the invitation has been accepted. Europeans and natives in Egypt deplore the death of the King and eulogise his reign. Prince Mohamed represents the Khedive at the funeral. At the opening of the Stock Exchange the members sar.g the National Anthem. The National Council of Free Cnurches, the Institute of Journalists, and many bodies have forwarded messages of condolence with Queen Alexandra and the Royal Family.
