Mr Jas, Horn, the Government nominee for the Tuapeka seat addressed the electors last night, receiving a unanimous vote of confidence. He favoured the free selection of land with the right of purchase and urged that the Government should open the waste lands to a greater extent. Mrs Grant, wife of Mr Grant, of the Customs Department, and her little son, were knocked down by a tramcar in Queen street last evening. Mrs Grant sustained a somewhat severe injury to her thigh, and the boy received a painful wound on the back of his head. ARRESTED FOR PERJURY. Christchurch, This Day. Trouble has arisen between the Tramway Company and the employees over the dismissal of a conductor without an explanation. The employees' union claim that this is a breach of the agreement under which dismissed employees are entitled to know the reason of their dismissal. The manager, Mr Walklate, declined to give any information. The union meets today to consider the question.
