Traveller's Narrow Escape.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hokitika, Last Night. Two Hokitika residents, when driving across the Big Wanganui River, South Westland, yesterday, had a very narrow escape frcm drowning. Their vehicle was carried down stream, and striking a large boulder, capsized, throwing the occupants into the river. The vehicle and horse were subsequently recovered. The previous day two local settlers had an almost similar experience. These incidents have demonstrated the necessity for a bridge being constructed. Local action to this effect has been going on for some time.
