A New Goldfield.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Stratford, Last Night. Taking advantage of the Hon. McGowan being in Taranaki today, Mr Jennings, M.P., brought under his notice the fact that gold has been discovered in West Taupo. When in that district recently, a specimen of gold-bearing gravelly stone was given the member for analysis. The result proved satisfactory, and corresponds with an analysis of stone found in the district many years ago. The Minister stated that a reward could not be paid to the discoverer until the field was sufficiently proved, and if the gold was on Maori or Crown lands there w r ould be further difficulties. Mr Jennings is satisfied from information in his possession that gold can be found in the district, but whether in payable quantities future development alone would prove.
