A cup match was played at Ohaupo on Wednesday afternoon. May 13th, between Ohaupo and Cambridge City teams which resulted in an easy win for the home team. Shortly after the kick-off Abbott scored a try, which he unsuccessfully attempted to convert. Shortly afterwards Forkert got the ball across the line and converted in good style. Although some good play was shown, these were the only scores in the first spell, which ended—Ohaupo 8, Cambridge nil. In the beginning of the second spel Cambridge was awarded a free kick 1 which was converted. Shortly after a similar kick fell to Cambridge, the ball being sent clean between the goal posts, making the score — Cambridge 6, Ohaupo 8. Abbott then scored two tries in succession, in which he showed some good play and pace; neither try was converted. About ten minutes before the whistle blew Urquhart scored another try, which Forkert also failed to convert, and the game ended—Ohaupo 17, Cambridge 6. The forwards were evenly matched. For Ohaupo Urquhart, Matheson, and Edwards played a solid game, while Watter was easily the best for Cambridge. Among the backs Ohaupo had a good lot. Stewart, as half, played an excellent game; Abbott, at wing three-quarter, is dangerous near the line, and very fast, scoring his tries on that account. He should make a good bid for the Waikato reps. Forkert and Clarke also played well for Ohaupo, and altogether the whole team showed good form.
