Death Under Anaesthetic.
By Telegraph. —Press Association. Napier, Last Night. An inquest was held yesterday touching the death of Michael Kirby, of Hastings, butcher, aged about 30, who died at the Napier Hospital on the 10th inst., while under the influence of an anaesthetic. It appeared that deceased had been suffering from a broken arm, and had not been in good health. He accidentally broke his leg on Sunday, and was brought in from Hastings in an express, instead of in the ambulance waggon. The jury returned the following verdict: “That deceased died from collapse of the right lung while under an anaesthetic, and the jury are of opinon that every care was taken in the administering of the anaesthetic.” The following rider was added:— ‘‘That inquiry should be made as to the charges for the use of the ambulance at Hastings, with a view to placing it on such a footing that it may be available at a moderate price.”
