At last night's meeting of the Trades and Labour Council reference was made to the effect the operations of tho Southern Flour Trust would have on tlm nnnkets of tho workers if the local •ere unable to keep pace with tne competition, Mr \V. Peike mentioned that large quantities of Southern Flou--bad been coming int.o nuckl nd, and stated that ii- u-no tn tVmir ran interost for tho workers to stand by the local mills, out for which the price of flour would now be considerably higher. He suggested that the matter should be brought before all tho union--, asking them to support their Iocs! mills. The Chairman (Mr 11. W. Brookes) endorsed tho last speaker's remarks, remarking that it was a well-known fact that the Fiour received from the Auckland Mill was good and that Bad Reports Had Been Received of the Southbrn Flour Plackd on the Market, while the American Flour was Reported to he Even Worse. Mr Derrick moved—" That the Secretary bo instructed to write to the various unions, Collins: attention to the fac's, 'and asking them to support local manufacturers in preference to importations."
