By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, This Day. A meeting of the Blackball Miners' Union decided to continue the strike and not pay the fine imposed on the Union by the Arbitration Court. Christchurch, This Day. The Hon. Mr McNab expects that the first edition of "Early New Zealand," the index of which was destroyed in the Parliamentary buildings fire, will be ready after Easter, and the second edition, dealing with the South Island to be ready in June. Wellington, This Day. Major Head, of the Royal Garrison Artillery, at Woolwich, succeeds Major John Hume as head of the permament forces of New Zealand. The former takes the position of director of ordinance and commandant of the permament force. The Minister for Lands referring to the South Island properties recently acquired for settlement, states that the number of applicants has been in excess of those for North Island estates. George Whelch, the Akaroa oarsman, who won the amateur sculling championship, at Napier, is about to join the professional ranks. Whelch seeks a match with Arnst, and will also challenge Webb, the holder of the world's championship,
