Local and General.

Messrs 'King and Co. are selling, without reserve, the household furniture and effects of Mr W. Close, at hs residence in Ulster-street, tomorrow, at 2 p.m.

Those interested are reminded of the sales to be held by the Farmers' Auctioneering Company tomorrow. At Ohaupo 10,000 sheep will be offered, and at Rangiriri 600 head of well bred cattle. Full particulars appear in advertisement. At Hamilton, on Thursday, the firm will offer a large yarding of stock in the Borough Yards.

People who have occasion to use the Hamilton Traffic Bridge on foot, complain bitterly of the state into which the decking is allowed to get in wet weather, it being practically impossible to cross over dry shod even in daylight, and at night the trip is almost a dangerous one. It is suggested that augur holes be bored in the low lying portions, so as to allow the water to run away. Perhaps the council will see their way to attend to this.

We remind those interested of the unreserved clearing sale to be held at Hautapu, near the factory, on account of Mr C. Holliday, who has sold his farm. The sale is being held by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, and the stock to be offered includes choice dairy cows in milk and due to calve in August and September, heifers in calf, farm horses, and a good lot of implements, etc. The dairy cows are very choice. The sale will start at 12 o'clock sharp.

The Chinese entering the Dominion last year included 137 "new chums," all told, and for the 12 months ending March 31, the revenue of the State has consequently beer: strengthened by £13,700. The total sum collected for the previous 12 months was £9IOO for 91 Chinese. For the four quarters comprising the year, the amounts collected were as follows:—June quarter, £4OOO as against £2IOO for the corresponding period of the previous term, September quarter, £I4OO as against £3500 ; December quarter, £3OOO, as against £2400; and March quarter, £5300, as against £llOO.

Entries for the dairy factory classes at the National Dairy Show at Palmerston North show a substantial increase, numerically, to previous years. In the butter division 45 factories are responsible for 9G entries, no factory have more than" one entry in any class. There are 69 entries in the two export classes. In the cheese division 22 factories are exhibiting with 77 entries, and there are 33 entries for the export classes. The total entries for the two divisions are therefore, 173, as compared with 150 last year, and 67 factories from all parts of the Dominion are exhibiting.
