Waharoa News.
A well attended meeting of the settlers was held in the Waharoa schoolroom on Tuesday evening to consider several matters of interest to the district, Mr R. A. Forsman being voted to the chair. The first matter dealt with was the consideration of a letter received from Matamata inviting the Waharoa residents to select a representative to attend a meeting at the former place, to see about securing a resident doctor at Matamata. Owing to Dr. Endletzberger, who formerly practised there removing to Rotorua, the district is at present without the services of a medical man. Mr Tong was chosen to represent the Waharoa settlers and will report at a future meeting. A communication from the Hon. R. McNab, Minister for Lands was read with reference to a request made by the local deputation to the Prime Minister on his recent visit to the district, with regard to the Recreation Reserve. At present the Reserve, which contains ten acres, is in its native state, being covered with ti-tree and scrub. Consequently it is of no use for any purpose. The Minister notified that if brought under the Domain Act of 1881, the land could be handed over in trust to a local domain board, and advised the residents to submit the names of persons to act as such. The following were chosen, and their names will be submitted to the Minister for his approval: Messrs Tong, Wekes, Forsman, Tyson and Holloway. The meeting then took steps to reorganise the Liberal and Labour Federation, which has been dull for some time. It was felt that the time was opportune to infuse the branch with new life, in view of the coming election. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing committee, and the following were elected a new committee: Messrs Forsman, Tong, Wekes, Robinson, Holloway, Tyson, Pickup, Kutzy and R. Johnston, Mr Forsman acting as secretary pro tern. The new committee will meet in a fortnight's time to elect officers and enrol members. —Own Correspondent,
