Mills and Mr MoGowan (Valuer-General) held a conference with the Mangatoro settlers to hear complaints by the lattter re alleged ex* cessive valuations of their prokerties. Mr O'Mearn, M.H.R., introduoed the deputation. The Minister informed the settlers that he would place their views before the Cabinet. The Government bad no desire to rack-rent settlers, and hoped to have the valuations placed on a more satisfactory-Jootinu, the work now beina in progress. A Bill will be introduced next session to give the Valuer. General power which he is now lacking.
