THE AUCKLAND LABOUR MARKET.
(Br TELEGBAPH—PBESS ASSOCIATION] Auckland. Last Night. Unless there is s'Tne lessening of the rush of Australian immigrants, t'tie cry of the unemployed is likely to be heard in Auckland this winter. The Public Works Department have issued 'nstructions that no labourers are to be sent to the railway works for a time, as there is a scarcity of bushmen to clear the way for the line. The Auckland Labour Bureau has found work for no fewer than 811 men, having 700 dependents, since January 1, but the openings have now practically ceased to offer ow'iug .to the cessation of the demand for workers on the railway. Mr Ferguson, Labour Inspector, states that a very good class of men came over from Queensland early in the year, and they were quickly provided with work in the country, but the more recent arrivals have been from the cities. They are unsuitable for railway work, aud cannot leave the city. It is impossible to provide jobs fur a'l these men, who geDeral'y lind without a shilling, aud Mr wishes to convey a warning to wnuld-be emigrants from Australia against landing in New Zealand penoiless in the dead of winter.
