BOARD OF EDUCATION.
We think it is high time that the school committees throughout the Provincial District of Auckland scrutinised the action of the chairman (Mr Muir) and his servile mujority, which includes the three retiring members, Messrs Lamb, McKenzic and Mackay. The highhanded action of these men in refusion to allow the architects to be present whilst statements were made respective them, when they had documentary evidence to prove that these statements (to use a inild term) were incorrect—is, to our way of thinking (and to rightminded people, we venturo to aßsert) devoid of that spirit of British fair play, which we have the right to expect and demand. What, then, is our duty at the present juncture, when the elections for three members of the Board take phce next month? There is only one course open, and that is to discard the three retiring members, and vote for three entirely now men. We have read carefully the leading articles in the Auckland Star and Herald in reference to the action of the chairman and his ' satelites,' in refusing to admit evidence on behalf cf the accused—and we are undoubtedly of the opiuion that it is quite time this ' Star Chamber' business waß put a stop to, and that this can only bo done by putting in three new, and good men, who will vote independently and intelligently, aud free froni party coercion. We are glad to hear that the committees will have an opportunity of making a selection at this juncture, as Mr Geo. Edeecumbe (of YVaikatol for the South, Mr Mason, J.P. ( 0 f Whiingarei), for the North, and Mr Parr (solicitor ofdnckland(, who would help to fill the vacancy on the Board by the retirement of Mr Justice Cooper, who has been much missed since he left the Board. The above is well worthy of the consideration of tho committees, and wo trust wo Inve done our duty in calling attention to tho matter,—Northern Luminary.
