DISCHARGE OF WORKMEN.

In an interview with a reporter and some settlors of Mnngaweka and Taihape as to the dismissal of men on railway works, the Premier said it had never been contemplated by him that ‘ sacking ’ should have been carried on in such a wholesale »n 1 indiscriminate manner. The fact was that for some lime past tho -Departmental officers had' been taking practically allcomers on to the works, with, the result that it was found that 1 the .£160,000 authorised by Parliament for Trunk Railway works has been expended, and £20,000 more.
