Addressing a meeting last night the Premier announci d that there would he no change in the Government policy as was slated in some quarters. He explained that the Liberal administration had increased the nati nal debt, but had not increased the burden of the people. He said that, d. spite a 1 normal expenditure, so far as he could judge ’the Govern ment would have a surplus of over two hundred thousand. He den ed the statement that want of money was the cause of reducing the number of men on public works. What course the Government won d pursue with regard to more men for South Africa would he decided shortly when he had learned the views of his colleagues. Without giving any direct intimation he hinted that he was iu favour of sending more men.
