(Received November 12, 9.26 a.m) Melbourne, November 12. A CONFERENCE of the Chambers of Commerce in the Commonwealth has opened to discuss the Federal tariff. Mr Reid is visiting the leading provincial centres in Victoria delivering Free Trade addresses. (Received November 13, 9 2 a.m.) Melbourne, November 13. The Chambers of Commerce in conference adopted resolutions advocating the postponement of the operation of the Kanaka Bill for a reasonable time, pending a trial of the Government bonus proposals in connection with the sugar industry, and condemning the provisions of the InterState Commission Bill, relating to carriage by sea ; favouring a penny post throughout the Commonwealth and Empire, and a federal tariff which would not hamper natural industries.
