NEW ZEALAND DAIRY ASSOCIATION.

MEETING AT HARAPBPE. Me Blackett met the milk suppliers at the creamery yesterday morning, by invitation Mr W. H. James was also present. Mr Blackett iu explaining his views, said he nut think the small creameries were justly treated, at the same time he would not make them a burden on the largo ones ; he pointed out that if tlio small creamery did not exist the generd expenses of the company would be just the same as at present, the only difference should he in the skimming and not on the butter fat. In aeply by Mr James, Mr McGuirk said he had no boubt Harapepe would soon be one of the leading creameries, the large area of first c'ass maiden laud was ample proof of that. Mr J. H. Pohlen in endorsing Mr McGuirk remarks, said the chief difficulty was getting the land into grass, most of the suppliers had not much to work on, and after paying for their own support there was very little left to spend on laying down grass. Mr Blackett said he thought if the matter was properly explained he had no doubt the larger creameries would be willing to give the smaller ones a little more assistance, as it would soon result in a much larger return. In reply to Mr Barker, Mr Blackett said a director should be paid his expenses and a little for loss of time, but no more.

MrJ.H. Pohlen suggested that they should he paid £’26 per annum Mr Blackett said that wo aid be quite enough. In view of a report, Mr James explained tl at he was not opposing Mr B ackett, but on the other hand he supported him, and rather than see Mr Blackett out of it he would resign in his favour. Mr McGuirk asked Mr James if it was true that he wished the small creameries to be run on their own account. Mr James said this* was the first he had heard of it. Mr McUuirk further asked would he (if elected) stand by Messrs Greenslade and Blackett. Mr James said, 1 I don’t think you have any reason for doubt.’ It was then resolved to support Messrs G/reenslade, Blackett and James to represent the Upper Waikato, Mr VV. Bruce being entrusted with the proxies from Harapepe. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— The tone of Mr J. Hutchiosou’s letter in your issue of yesterday distinctly proves that Mrs Grundy is at the bottom ni his retirement from the directorship of the New Zealand Dairy Association. There is no doubt that he would have been elected had he stood, notwithstanding that he thought that the remuneration should have been £25. I would like to know if shareholders, as a body, are in favour of a person nominated for a director going from house to house convassing for proxies. I understand that this is being done, and to my thinking it is entirely out of plac-'. I consider a person nominated shnuM leave himself entirely in the hands of the shareholders. We would then I think have the best men picked to represent the district as a whole. We have Farmers’ Clubs and Unions, -and are pressed upon to stick together. Surely then in this Milk Supplier’s Association we have as much need lo baud together and help all for the good of all. I th nk it was proposed at several meetings that a person should be appointed to look after proxies find out the shareholders’ wishes and vote according to instructions. It matters little which district a director may be elected fro n provided he is elected by a unanimous vote of the whole district, and is capable of grasping the details of the busmess and work in the supplier’s iuteiests which are the same for one district as another.—l mi') etc., _________
