Tnn youths Walker and Howard pleaded guilty to ten charges of theft in connectirn with the discovery of the camp by the police last week, in a lonely part of the Pelorus. They contended that as natives they were permitted to the take fish out of water near native reserves. The &.M. ruled that no such rights existed. The Sawmillers’ Union has wired to the Premier urging the imposition of a high import duty on baulk timber. Dunedin, This Day. At 11.30 last night a fire was discovered in a lean-to on the reclaimed laud occupied by Isaac Walker, wellknown about the city and wharves. Neighbours rushed into the place and dragged Walker out, Walker was then insensible, and severely burned about the neck, head, arms and legs. A delay of three-quarters of an hour took place in securing the services of a doctor. When Dr. MacPherson arrived he pronounced life extinct. Death was probably due to suffocation. Deceased was 70 years old.
