SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

We rrgret to hear of a serious accident that occurred near Taumarunui, last Friday. The victim was a youth named Box, 16 years of age, eldest son of Mr Chas. Box, formerly of Cambridge, and now of the King Country. A huge log was being hauled out of tire bush on skids, by means of bullocks. The driverspoke to Box who turned to reply, and the log suddenly rolling, caught him unawares and pinned him by the leg, carrying him along with it in its course. He was extricated as speedily as possible aud taken to his home, and his parents did all they possibly could do for the sufferer, but there being no medical man within miles of the spot, it was some days before the serious nature of his injuries made itself apparent. It was thin decided to bring him to the Waikato Hospital, and he was received into the institution yesterday. Upon examination it was seen that the leg was badly broken, and amputation above the knee was found necessary. Upon enquiry this morning we were informed that mortification had set in, and that very slender hopes arc held out for his recovery. The victim was a promising young man, and exceedingly popular amongst the men on the works.

A report from the Hospital, received just before going to press, states that Box is dying.
