TE AWAMUTU.
At the Police Court on Thursday before Messrs Wm. North and J. B, Teaidale Justices, a man named Wm. Ashbolt, an ex-polioeman residing at Poro-o-tarao, in the prohibited King Country, was charged on the information of Constable Hyde with stealing one 18-galion keg of beer, the property of W. Miles, valued at 36a. Accused pleaded guilty and his counsel, Mr Collins spoke in extenuation. The accused as well as some others was expecting some beer up by train, and on enquiring from the officials whether it arrived he was informed that it was not on that particular train, but might be in a truck lower down the line. Accused went to the truck and removed the tarpaulin. Some beer was in the truck and he took the keg in question, the label of which was torn. Miles made a statement to the Bench saying he had seen the beer in the track addressed - to him a short time before accused went to the truck. Const. Hyde stated ho found the bear in accused’s fowlhouse. A lot of pilfering was going on about the place, causing anxiety to the police and the Public Works Debartmeot. Accused was fined £1 and costs £3 2s Bd, and to refund the value of the beer. In default 14 days’ hard labour. Two weeks were allowed to pay the amount. The usual monthly meeting of the Rangiaohia Road Board was held in TeAwarnutu on Saturday last. There were present; Messrs Fred Potts (Chairman), G.'McKindtr, R. Kay, R. Bell, and T. Weal A complaint was received from Paikuku against Mr W. Shaw, erecting a stockyard and sheds on thw public road adjacent to his property. It was resolved to give Mr Shaw notice to remove.same within thirty days. The Chairman’s action in granting permission to Mr Thompson of Te Rahu to erect a temporary fence on the by-road was endorsed. It was decided to have the necessary cutting work doue at Ramsay’s hill. The plans in connection with the roads proposed to be closed running through Mrs Martyn’s farm were received, and it was decided to have the necessary advertisements inserted. The Board decided not to proceed in the matter of road closing on Mr John’s property. A notification was received from the Department of Lands that the sum of £lO 18s has accrued us thirds on Pott’s and other lands in the district It was decided to take the necessary steps to bring the 2nd schedule of the Noxious Weeds Bill into force. Account passed for payment were Te Awamutu Town Board £2 7s ; King 18s; Bond 10.i.
