SUICIDE AT THAMES.

A sad case of suicide took place at the Thames, on Wednesday. It appears that Mr Thomas Cantley, Secretary of the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, had an appointment with Mr Easton, a Government Auditor at tine o’clock that morning. The Auditor arrived at the Office at that time and found the door looked. On looking down the street he saw the deceased just turning into Mary-steet, and he made a motion as if he had forgo: ten something and would be back shortly. Mr Easton waited about tor some time hut as Mr Cantley did not return he repotted the circumstance to the chairman of the Charitable Aid Board, and eventu 1 y the office was entered by force. It was then found that deceased had evidently been in the office that morning and placed the books on the table. The safe was locked, and a bheksmith was engaged to break it open, when a sum of money was found insole. Some of Mr Cant-ley’s friends, having been informed ot the circumstance?, in conjunction with the police, organised search parties. The body of deceased was found in the scrub in Ts Papa gully. >!□ one ot his pockets was found a bottle containing strychnine Deceased was about 36 years of age, and was a native of Edinburgh. He had hern in ill-health for some time past, having suffered from a severe attack of influenza.
