CAMBRIDGE CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY.
The following is the conclusion of our report of the annual meeting of the above society:— The Farmers’ Clue Root Show A deputation from the Fanners’ Club, consisting of Messrs Robert Fisher and W. Tucker, attended the meeting <o find out if there was any chance of the two Societies joining and holding a united show.—Mr Fisher said if it could be arranged to hold a united show in April next he believed it would he beneficial to both Societies. The farmers had hitherto made their show a success, but if it was held in conjunction with the Chrysanthemum Show it would doubtless be better than heretofore. They did not wish to trespass on the funds of the Chrysanthemum Society, but had merely come to discuss the matter, and, if deemed advisable, try and formulate a scheme for carrying out the suggestion.—Mr Tucker supported the remarks of Mr Fisher as to the good effect such a show would have upon both Societies, and he believed it would be for the benefit of the district generally.—Mr Buckland thought tbs suggestion a happy one. He believed in such Societies helping one another, and the Chrysanthemum Society would, he was sure, be pleased to meet their friends, the farmers, in every possible way. The chief obstacle would be want of space. —Mr Wells made a suggestion by which lie thought that objection could be overcome, and it was very favourably received. Mr McDermott said it afforded him much pleasure in seeing the hearty manner in which the Chrysanthemum Society entertained the suggestion of their fellow Society, and he predicted the joining of the two Societies would prove of benefit to both. —lt was resolved to appoint a small committee to confer with the Farmers’ Club re the matter, after which the deputation thanked the meeting for the courteous manner in which the suggestions had been entertained, and then retired.
Prize Schedule.— Mr Buckland suggested a number of alterations being made in the prize schedule, making the contests much more open, specially encouraging the junior members, and adding considerably to the children’s classes. —Messrs Buckland end McDermott were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange the schedule.
The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
