RIFLE MATCH.
Ox Saturday, 23rd inst., at the rifle range on Mr S. Picken's estate, Waingaro, a rifle match took place between ten men from the Huntly Volunteer Corps, under the charge of Lieut. Elliott, and ten Wain ROTO men. wiio were surprised to find at the conclusion of the match that they had defeated their opponents by 120 points. The light was none of the best for good shooting. The ranges were 200, 400 and 500yds., seven shots at each with one foot bull's eye throughout. Appended arc the scores : Huntly TIUM. Total Corpl F. O'Loughlin ... .. ... 73 Pt F. Wilson 61 Grand total ... 673 After the match an adjournment was made to the Hot Springs Hotel, where the Waingaro team entertained the Huntly team to dinner, which was served in Host Wilson's usual good and appetising style. Mr J. K. McDonald occupied the chair, while Lieut. Elliott ably tilled the vice chair. The masts of the. King, Governor, and New Zealand Parliament were duly proposed and honoured, and the cvenins? was passed in a convivial manner. Votes of thanks were passed to the host and hosioss with all the honours, and the usual vote to the chairs I rought a pleasant evening to a (dose after singing " Auld Lang Sync " and " ('od Sivc the King." A return match at Huntly in three wtoUs' time has been arranged, and the Huntly team hope to turn the tables on that occasion.
