To enable me to do so I require full particulars as to the part of the gravel reserve to be given for part of section 174. Will you therefore please mark on the tracing attached hereto the five actGS which the owner of section 174 is prepared to give in exchange for the five acres of the gravel reserve. Of course on the gravel reserve plan also show the five acres he wishes to give in exchange." The chairman said he had obtained Mr Newcomlc's consent to the exchange, and the eh rk had replied that the owner would givo 7A acres in exchaugefor the five to be taken for a gravel pit, but at the samJ time lie stated that the live acres were more valuable than the seven and a-half. F Euckland gave rhe following opinion ; " In reply to your queries re the powers of your Board under The Noxious Weeds Act I beg to state that while all fences pretty well have to be trimmed, yet you cannot enforce the cleaning to the centre of the road under the said Act of gorse and broom without oringing the second schedule into force. You can enforce the clearing of blackberry and sweetbriar without doing so. In regard to an inspector I suggested that you should try and get the Government to appoint a nominee of your own, but I notice that Mr Ro=s has been appointed an Inspector, but it may Dot be for your district."—Mr Allen said Mr Ross appeared to think that some of the inhabitants were opposed to him being Inspector, but he had not heard anyone take exception to the appointment. Closed Road. —Messrs Ambury and English, who have purchased a good slice of the Moauavale Estate, wrote as follows I —" Your favour dated December 24th duly to hand re stopping roads running through our land in the I'ukekura district. In reply, we have to say that we thiuk the price you quoted, plus expenses, is very excessive. Seventy shillings per acre is far more than the value of most of the lacd through which the road runs, in fact some of it would
be dear at 80.* per acre, but we want to
meet your Board in a fair spirit. Wc '* s - understand there are VJ'r acres in the roads in question, and as the Board is spending considtrablc money ou the road in which we have an interest, wc arc prepared to pay the Board £6O for the land and deeils free of charge to us on being assured that the land would bo transferred to us by your Hoard. On the above conditions wp would forward cheque for the £Go.'—The Chairman said the offer really meant tho Board would receive about £6O instead of £7O, aud have to bear all expenses. Personally be thought the offer was a fair oue, for it was the Board who wanted the road closed and not Messrs Am bury and English. —Mr Allen a-ked if the roads in question would not he required if the laud was cut up into small farms, but the Chairman said they would not.—it was resolved to accept, the offer provided the expenses of survey and transfer do not exceed £2O. DfaeV.alcisc.—The Valuation Depart. ment forwarded a bill for £4 10s Ml, for alterations made upon the roll.
