- Farewell Social.—The members of the local football club aud the rowing club, together with a number of friends, tendered a complimentary social lo Mr aud Mrs McKenzie on the occasion of their departure, after a residence of nearly ' seveu years in the township. The social was hold in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 7th inst. There was a large attendance, and the proceedings throughout were of a hearty and enthusiastic nature. About 10 o'clock Mr Warren, in a neat and humorous speech, presented Mr McKcnzie with a beautifully illuminated address and a pipe. The address, which was the work of Mr Nash, who had on a piuvious occasion given evidence of his ability as an artist, was most appropriate, suitably worded, and containing besides local sketches of the ■\Vaipa Bridge, etc.. shields with colours of both the football and rowing clubs, for the genial Harry was ever ready to assist sport of any kind. After the presentation was made the footballers gave three ringing cheers, aud concluded by sinking "On the Ball,", and Mr McKc!i)2 ; e' had to wait till their ardour had son'c.uhat cooled before lie got an opportuui'y of replying. Miss Paterson then, nn l-elialf of Mrs MoKenzie's maiiy frienis, presented her with a handsome ahum and a lmcd-bag. During the eve'Vncj songs were given by Miss Wilsou, Mrs Dawson, and Messrs Burr and Simmelhag. Rifreshments were handed round, and a pleasant gathering was brought to a close shortly after midnight. Okisating Society.—On November 7th at the ordinary meeting of the Debating . Society, Mr Fowlds gave an address on ''Single Tax" to a fair audience. Mr Fowlds spoke for over an hour and aquarter, and having expressed his willingiiesH to answer any questions, a number of questions were put and received the attention of the speaker. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to Mr Fowlds for his address.—(Own Correepondout).
