FAREWELL SOCIAL TO MR HENRY LEWIS AND FAMILY.

. ->— —— On Thursday a farewell social was tendered by the inhabitants of I e Awamutu and surrounding districts to Mr Henry Lewis and family, who are about to leavn Te Awamutu, after a residence of nearly 30 years. There was a large attendance at the To.vn Hall. The guests of the evening were greeted with applause on entering the Hall. The programme consisted of songs and dan ;es. Shortly after nine o'clock Mr C. A. Taylor, manneer of the Bank of New Zealand, invited MiLewis to the stage. He then eaid that the numerous friends of Mr Lewis could not allow him to leave without showing in some manner the high esteem in which he is held. To his own knowledge Mr Lewis had always been a friend to the poor and needy, and many of his uceds of kindness aro quite unknown to the public. After wishing Mr Lewis with and family every happiness in their new home in Auckland, the speaker called upon Mr VV. North, Chairman of the Town Board, to present to Mr Lewis the following handsomely illuminated address':—" To Henry Lewis, Esq.—The residents of Te Awamutu aud neighbourhood desire to express their deep regret -at your leaving the district, and their earnest wish for the welfare and prosperity of yourself and family in your new home. During a residence at Te Awamutu extending over a period of some thirty years your fellow-townsmen have found you to be a friend of the poor and a willing helper in all matters affecting the good of the people of Waikato generally and the township of Te Awamutu in particular. They also deeiro to express their appreciation of the many services rendered by members of your family in social matters. It will be difficult to fill their places, and the only solace is the knowledge that Te Awamutu's loss is others'agaiu.
