REPORTS QP HORRIBLE jj BUTCHERIES. TROOPS AT TIENTSIN. FALL IN CHINESE SECURITIES London, July 5. Shanghai circulates a horrible report of butcheries, .based chiefly on mysterious hints given by Chinese officials. t Justice Brighain's son, an attache of the Legation, has escaped from Pekin. There are 12,000 international troops within Tientsin. It 'is estimated that 50,000 will be required to march to Pekin. . Italy is preparing to send 7000 men to China.... America's total force is 6-500. A heavy fall has taken place in Chinese securities. Francois, French Consul and party, who were recently seized by Chinese, have reached Laokai safely. Many Chinese noblemen are recruiting Boxers in the provinces. The Emperor of Germany has notified the Viceroys that he will pay 1000 taels for every foreigner rescued from Pekin. I: • ■ BARON KETTELER'S MURDER. GERMAN VOLUNTEERS. DECLINED. A NEW SOCIETY. Hongkong, July 8. When Baron Von Ketteler, the German Ambassador, was killed at Pekin, the British guard attempted to protect him, and killed several Chinese soldiers. The Government at Hongkong has declined the services of German volunteers, but has expressed willingness to employ them as constables. The Triad, a Chinese secret society, 16 threatening to become troublesome. ■ THE LEGATIONS SAFE ON 4th. THE CHINESE ATTACK CEASED. FEARED THEY WILL SUCCUMB TO STARVATION. INDIAN CAVALRY AND ARTILLERY FOR CHINA. (Received July 9, 5.40 p.m.) Hongkong, July 8, The Shanghai Consuls report that the Legations were safe on 4th inst. 1 The Chinese had ceased to attack. The chief fear now is that those refuging in the Legations will succumb to starvation. London, July 8. The 3rd Bombay Cavalry and " C" Battery of Field Artillery have been ordered to China. CHINESE SYMPATHISERS SUC-jjS COUR THE LEGATIONS. V 25.000 JAPANESE TROOPS EMBARKING. A CHINESE EDICT. THE RISING ATTRIBUTED TO RUSSIA. (Received July 9,10.50 p.m) Hongkong, July 9. Great Britain has promised to support the Viceroy of Nankin in suppressing the disturbances in the Yangtse Valley. Native rumours are current that Chinese sympathisers are affording the Legations material support. Twenty - five thousand Japanese troops are embarking at Ujina, including a strong force of cavalry. Thursday Island, July 9. China news states that a Pekin edict attributes the Pootingfu rising not to the disbanded soldiery and the secret society, but to the Russians, who joined the Boxers as a cloak to their own designs, and seized the chance to create trouble. > A later edict make tho civil and ( military authorities responsible, but affords a loophole of escape to those who can say they joined the outrages to see the fun. It is reported that Li Hung Chaug advised the suppression of the Boxers, and for this reason was refused the po6t of Viceroy of Chihili.
