WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
4> A UKETING of the General Committee of the above Association was held on Tuesday in the Council Chambers, Ohaupo. About twenty members were present, Mr John Fisher (President) occupying the chair. The Secretary read the minutes of last meeting, but opinions were divided re confirming the same, but on a show of bands they were posted. The Chairman' then called upon 'Mr Safe to speak to a motion be had given notice of. Mr Sare said the object of calling the meeting was to receive a recoftl from the executive of what work had been \.. done. The Chairman said the executive wore always willing to give ,ov?ry information and put matters in order to be discussed, but had not had lull meetings of the committee for some time past, and re- ... ferred to Mr Allen'*; and the Secretary's &■ trip to Auckland as a record one, if they Be' might! judge from "results. The schedule f was now in the hands of the printer, and would be out Bix weeks sooner this year. The judges have been appointed, and to all uppearauees the forthpoming show would be fully up to the past. There would also be prizes for wood-chopping and a jumping match for volunteers. . A vote of thanks to the Secretary and Mr Allen was passed for their efforts in canvassing while in Auckland. The Secretary said the prize-money this year would tie over £SOO, aud more still to come in. In the matter of prizes they Were'more liberal than many larger '-.'shows.. The Freezing Company gives a, prize of five guineas for the best ten lambs fit for freeziug, and also the same for the best ten sheep for the same purpose. Those prizes will be supp'emented by two pounds and one pound from the - as awarded by the judges on thVshowground, but the Freezing Company to take immediate possession of the sheep, and their prize of five guineas to be awarded by their London expert The New Zealand Land Association will give the same prjze a 3 last year, Mr . Gordon giving the second. An article from Mr Peacock, editor of The Farmer, was read re giving prizes for family groups, the suggestion was considered a good one, but it was .thought that the district was hardly ad vanccd enough for that yet. A vote of \" thanks was accorded the writer. i\ : It was decided the winner of the McsJ Kieol Memorial Plate or Cup have a .voice in the seloction of the prize. Mr Sare thanked the Chairman for his report/ His, o tne speaker's, object was . to bring the affairs of the Association more before the public, and that the ;. General Committee meet again in eight weeks' time to receive the report of the executive. This was seconded by the Chairman and carried. Mr Gordon'said he would like to see more of the outstanding debts collected. \ Mr G. Clark spoke to the same effect, and moved that at the next meeting and at every other General Committee meeting, a list of all arrears he made out, . and all information on the finances of the Association be given. This was seconded by Mr Sare and carried,Mr Allen brought up the subject, re two bnshel bags being the standard, and ' read a copy of the letter sent by Messrs Stead and Co. to the Minister of Railw«y, in which that firm advocated legis- *. iaiiun on the matter, and also a copy of . unother letter sent, by Mr Virtue to the , ; -Minister condemning the use of two bushel bags, as detrimental .to the agri- .'• cultural interests. Mr Allen spoke on the subjecfupholding Mr Virtue's view, and stating the farmers objected to any alteration reducibg sacks to less than .'J 2001 b weight, and.moved that this meeting support the action taken by Mr Virtue. -The Chairman said the matter effected them as much as the show, aud supported * the motion. Several others also spoke against reducing the capacity of sacks to less than 2001 b. The motion was carried unanimously, and it was decided to forward | it to the Minlfiter of Railway, ; Mr Farrer proposed a newjmember, Mr . Nicholenson, of Waipa, and Mr Gorden proposed Mr J. S. Clark, of Te Awamutu. Both were elected. On the motion cf Mr Farrer it was de- " cided that the Secretary bring up a report of the amended rules at next meeb- ■ ine. , . A vote of thouks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
