THE GOVERNOR AND THE VETERANS.

(BY telegraph—press ASSOCIATION}. Auckland, This Day. A NUMBER of veterans presented an address to the Governor. In reply the Governor said he hoped to see a New Zealand Veterans’ Association established which would commemorate the past, and keep their brave and noble deeds evergreen in the minds of future generations in this colony. He begged to thank them warmly for the address, and as sirred them it was very greatly appreciated both by Lady Ranfnrly and himself. A casket to contain the address* was also presented. It is composed of strips of wood indigenous New Zealand, bound together with silver bands. The scroll is in Maori, ornamented with the ancient name of the North Island “ThelkaA Maui,” on a silver shield.
