FOOTBALL.

WAIKATO RUGBY UNION. The first match under :the auspices of the Waikato Rugby Union will be played at Huntly on Saturday between the Hamilton and Huntly Clubs. These clubs have not met since the season of 1898, when the mining township was defeated by 22 points to nil. The club did not join the Association last year, but tliis season it has been considerably strengthened, and the match on Suturday should be an interesting one. Mr E. Williamson, Hamilton, will have charge of the whistle. On Saturday evening a meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union will be held at Huntly. WAIPA RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Waipa Rugby Union was held in Te Awamutu on Saturday evening last. The delegates present were Messrs 0. Bowden and J. hiorth, Te Awamutu ; S. C. Macky and J. Ryburn, Pateraugi ; M. Gorrie and F. Uorboy, Kihikihi ; A. Smith and S. Conn, Pirongia : Hellier and M. Cowley, Otorohanga. Mr Ryburn presided. Mr Bowden asked permission to withdraw his notice of motion given at the previous meeting “ That the Union adopt a district scheme.” Granted. Mr Ryburn moved “ That the clause in rule 13 of the by-laws stating that all members must have resided in the district 14 days before playing in cap contests be struck out and that the matter be left entirely in the hands of the delegates.” Carried, It was decided to play the Piako Union on the 23rd inst., and that an “ A ” and “ B ” practice match be played at Te Awamutu on Saturday, the 16th. Messrs C. Bowden, M. Gorrie and W. Macky were appointed to pick all representative teams.

It was resolved that the Union request the referees of the Waipa Union to form themselves into an Association and that the Union give them every reasonable support. WAIPA REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Referees’ Association was held in Te Awamutu on Saturday evening. immediately after the Rugby Union meeting. Mr Geo. Berry presided. It was decided to form an association, to be called the Waipa Referees’ Association, and to affiliate with the Auckland Referees’ Association. Mr Berry was elected as Chairman of the Association, and Mr H. Chalmers as Secretary and Treasurer. The election of an examining committee was allowed to stand over for the present. Entrance fee for members was fixed at 2s fid. Annual meetings to be held during the first week of April, The Secretary was instructed to write and inform the Auckland Referees’ Association that an Association had been formed and asking to be affiliated The following names were handed in to the Secretary during the evening : Messrs C. Bowden, H. E. Forde, M. Cowley, S. C. Macky, W Macky, J. Ryburu, J. S. Clark, Hellier, Geo. Berry, M. Gorrie, S. Lewis, J. North. TE AWAMUTU V. KIHIKIHI. The first match between the above clubs was played on the Te Awamutu ground on Saturday last, and resulted in a victory for the home team, the scores being 11 points to 3. This match besides being a cap contest also counts for the O’Connor banner. Mr Macky acted as referee and gave every satisfaction. PATERANGI V. .OTOROHANGA. The match between the above clubs was played on the Klhikihi club’s ground on Saturday last, and after a hard-fought struggle resulted in a win for Paterangi, the “ Invincibles ” by 13 points to 3. Both clubs were well represented, and during the earlier part of the match it was very uncertain which side would prove the victors. PIAKO RUGBY UNION. The first round of matches under this Union was completed on Saturday when Te Aroha and Waihou met, and the game resulted in a draw neither side scoring. The position of the Clubs now is : Waihou and Te Aroha one win and one draw ; Morrinsville two losses. On Saturday next the second round will be opened, when Waihou and Morrinsville meet at Waihou. Mr R. J. Gwyuue, of Hamilton, will act as reteiee.

In the senior football at Auckland on Saturday Newton beat Ponsonby by 6 to 0, and Grafton beat North Shore by 4to 3. City won against Suburbs by default.
