AN ATTEMPT TO SHOOT HIM TWO SHOTS FIRED. THE ASSAILANT ARRESTED. [UNITED PRESS association]. (I’.Y ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH - COPYRIGHT) (Received April D, 3,30 p.m.) London, April 4. A YOUTH, named Tipido, fired a revolver twice at the Prince of Wales at the Northern Station, Brussels, without doing any injury. When arrested the man’s pockets, were found to be stuffed with Anarchists’ literature. (Received Apiil 5, 10.40 p.m.). London, April <5. The Prince and Princess of Wales were journeying to Copenhagen for the King’s birthday and to spend Easter. They left Charing Cross in (he morning, and crossed to Calais. When leaving the northern for the southern station, at Brussels, at 5.30 p.m., tho driver heard two shots. He stopped the train. Tipido stood on the footboard with a revolver thrust through the open window of the saloon, intending to fire a third shot. The station-master and others arrested Tipido, who was vociferating that he intended to kill the author of the slaying of thousands in South Africa, and Chamberlain’s accomplice. The Prince was self-possessed, and when he alighted he asked the officials if the revolver were loaded,, and receiving a reply iu the affirmative, he smilingly hoped the youth would be leniently dealt with. The Prince and Princess of Wales decided to proceed on their journey. (Received April 6, 9.20 a.m.) London, April 5. Britain is startled at the attempt on the life of the Prince of Wales, and the joy at his marvellous escape is universal mingled with resentment. The results of anglophobism and the lack of police precautions are severely criticised, seeing that the Transvaal has an agency at Brussells which is the source of unchecked calumnies.
Tipido’s first shot struck the cushion beside the Prince and the others spent in mid-air.
