THE BUBONIC PLAGUE.

The doctors are taking a more hopeful view of the outbreak of plague, as in accordance with experience, it should have reached the epidemic stage, and instead of a few, there ought to he u large number of cases daily. They are sanguine the energetic measures have had an effect.

The Premier, replying to a deputation, said up to the present the Central Board of Health had been merely a figure head, and legislation was wanted next session, Iu the meantime a scries of suggestions drawn up would be gazetted for the guidance of local boards. His advice to the latter was to make their own law. It was better to take some risk than let the plague. come in, and he would stand by the local bodies in anything they did to prevent it, and also help them financially.
