OHAUPO.

On Friday evening, as announced, a patriotic social was held in the Public Hall. The night was fine and the hall was com'ortably filled, about one hundred and fifty being present. Several attended from out-districts; even elderly people put in an appearance and contributed their quota with a freedom and goodwill that showed their feeling in the cause. The following items were gone through ;—Mr Laurie, “ Soldiers of the Queen ” and “ Sous of the Sea ” ; Mr T. Dillon, “ The Old Brigade ” ; Mr J. Cavanagh, “ Her Majesty ” ; Mr J. T. Edwards, “ Simon the Cellarer ” ; Miss Emma Edwards, “ 0 Maris Stella”; Miss Dolly Graham, “Tatters," (in character) and also “ Island of Dreams.” Mr Colhoun recited the “Absent-minded Beggar,” which was well received, coins being thrown on the stage, and the hat went round, the result being a collection of £2 17s. I have not heard what the total receipts are, but the committee are highly gratified at the success of the entertainment, notwithstanding the counter a circus, which was held the same night. Refreshments were provided by the committee, and dancing was kept up till alter midnight. Mr F. Corboy and Mr Pringle played the accompaniments, and everyone enjoyed themselves.—(Own Correspondent).
