Library.—A meeting of the Library Committee was held on Wednesday evening last. There were present : Messrs J. P. Vause (chairman), J. F. Andrew, J. L. Mandeno and H. H. Burton. The Chairman stated that all the accounts passed at the last meeting had been paid. Thirteen new novels had been added, seating accommodation in the reading-room improved, old books disposed of, and the front of the library buildings cleaned up. The credit balance at date was £4 18s ; subscriptions, etc., due to 31st December, £3 5s ; estimated expenditure to 31st December, £5 10s ; aud estimated credit balance on 31st December, £2 13?. The Flower 'Show Committee reported that the flower show and fancy fete held on the 9th November had been well supported and was very successful. The accounts as audited showed the total receipts £4B 6s2d and expenditure £2O 9s lid, leaving a credit balance of £25 16s 3d, out of which the sub-committee proposed donating a bouus of £2 2s to the Secretary and also purchasing a suitable present to the value of one guinea for Mrs J. F. Andrew, who had helped considerably, leaving a net credit balance to be handed over to the library funds of £22 13s 3d. The report of the sub-committee was approved. On the motion of the chairman * unanimous vote of thanks was passed 'to the judges, stewards and all others •who assisted at the Flower •was decided to continue the Magazines Jfor 1900 as at present; it was also decided to order Black and White for six months. Suitable cushions for the seats at No. 1 reading table are to be procured ; also half-a-dozen suitable chairs for the reading-room. It was decided to procure a further supply of books, and after some discussion the Chairman was authorised to send a trial order to Mr E. Coles, Melbourne, for books to be selected by the committee, to the value of not more than £lO. It was agreed that each member of the committee have th<u»rht to select three books, to be inthose ordered. The following were passed for payment : *. .-Tiuman and Lyell, £2 3s 2d ; Mandeno, £1 7s 7<l ; Andrew, 8s 3d ; and running accounts to 31st December, 1900. Tho following is the balance-sheet of the Flower Show and Fancy Fete : Receipts : Subscriptions to funds, £5 13s ; ditto special prizes, £3 7s ; privileges (refreshment booth and stails), £1 6s ; cash taken at door?, £24 15s 4d ; maypole, £8 4s 5d ; other side shows, £2 12s lid ; sale of shooting gallery, 7s Cd. Total, £46 6s 2d. Payments : Special prizes, £3 9s ; hall, £1 103 ; printing, £3 2s 6d ; labour, £3 15s 6d ; hire of timber, etc., £1 78 ; piano, 5s ; refreshments and stewards), 18s ; freights and cartage, 14s 6d ; shooting gallery, 53 ; stationery, postages, etc., £1 18s 4d ; sundries, £3 5s Id.
