It is understood the second contingent will be styled the Australian Federal Brigade. Brisbane, December 22. Messrs Stewart and Hammond, two well-known residents, have donated £SOO each towards the contingent. [Rcceivod 9,25 p.m.] • Sydney, December 23. A letter from an Australian business man in Durban, written a month ago, states that a thousand Germans and fifteen hundred French officers are assisting the Boers. He estimated that over sixty thousand Boers, including the Natal and Cape Colony disloyalists, are in the field. He considered the British commanders too cocksure. There in remarkable enthusiism in all the colonies over the second contingent, and the authorities are besieged with volunteers and offers to raise troops of rough riders and sharpshooters. Contributions to the patriotic fund are flowing in freely.
