Mr McCoy, who accepted the portfolio in the new Ministry wa3 defeated at Castlemaine on coming up for reelection. Mr Lawson, barrister, beating him by a majority of 3100. The defeat was largely Jdue to McCoy voting against the despatch of the first contingent to the Transvaal. Dissensions exist in the Cubinet, Mr Fink has resigned as be disapproved of the attitude of Mr Shiels, whoni be accuses of introducing bitter political personalities into bis speeches. He states his determination to pursue bis own line of warfare untrammelled by the responsibilities of his colleagues.
