COLONIAL TROOPS.
DESPATCH CF THE " A " BATTERY. (Received December 20, 10.5 ti.m.). Sydney, December 20. The Government is arranging to send the "A" Battery by train to Melbourne to catch the steamer Devon. The others will get away between January Ist and 10th. A number of the horses is being donated. Melbourne, December 20. A number of Mr Ghirnside's horses was found to be unsuitable, but he gave a substantial cheque to buy others. Adelaide, December 20. The Assembly unanimously agreed to send the troops. The Premier estimated the cost at about £13,000. Colouel Gordon commaudant goes to South Africa as a special officer. The Govcrumeut has offered his services to the other colonies. Received December 21, 12 10 a.m. Sidney, December 20. Mr Lyne has cabled to Mr Chamberlain that the Australian colonies offer the Imperial Government about 1000 mounted infantry. New South Wales sending a battery and half a field hospital corps. The battery to leave befote the end of the year. The balance about first week in January. (Received December 20, 9.42 a.m.) Bkisijane, December 20. Mr Philips has given notice of motiou in favour of sending 160 officers and men to the Transvaal. (Received December 20, 12.55. a.m.) Sydney, December 0. The Caledonian Society at Broken Hill has pissed a motion of sympathy with the Highland Brigade. They voted £SO in aid of the families of those ki.led.
