MAYORAL INSTALLATIONS.
HAMILTON. The annual meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held last evening. There were present;—The retiring Mayor (Mr Wm. Deyl, and Crs. R. F. Sandes, D. Salmon, C. Tippin, Wm. Bright, R. \V. Dyer, J. A. Young, S. Davis and H. Tristram. The Towu Clerk read the correspondence relating to the election of Mr Edgecumbe as Mayor, and he having been introduced by Crs. R, F. Sandes and C. Tippin, signed the customary declaration. Mr Dey said : "Mr Edgecumbe,— I have much pleasure in congratulating you upon your installation to the highest honour the burgesses cm confer upon you, and I hope that in entrusting you with the responsibility their confidence will not be misplaced. I feel sure there is a prosperous time in store for the district, and I sincerely hope the Council will extend to you the courtesy and assistance that has always been extended to me.' Mr Edgecumbe in reply said : " Mr Demand Councillors : It is extremely gratifying to me to hear the way in which you have referred to my election to the position of Mayor, and I have already thanked the burgessess for the high honour they have conferred upon me. I have not had the experience that maDy of you seated around this table have had, but I have no doubt I shall have the benefit of your judgment and assistance in carrying out the duties of my office in a manner which I hope will be to the satisfaction of yourself and the burgesses. Your late Mayor referred to the prosperous future bsfore us. I quite agree with him : every thing betokens a prosperous time. I hope we shall participate in it,and that I may in soms measure assist in bringing it about. The Mayor then took his seat. CAMBRIDGE. The Mayor, Mr W. F. Bnckland, was re-installcd at noon yesterday. There were present: Crs. Wells. Clarke, Pavies, Arnold, Carr and Richardson. The Alayor received hearty congratulations and was thauked for the great interest displayed and the time expended in borough matter?. The burgesaess are to he congratulated on bein j so lucky as to have such a capable man to occupy the position.
