Eega increased demand for Christmas. Butter prices steady. AUCKLAND MARKETS. The Mew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agkncy Company (Limited) report.—Auckland Wool Stores, December 12.—We submitted a large catalogue of hides, sheepskins, tallow, and wool (in bags) at our weekly sale on Tuesday, all lines being disposed of, under keen competition, at an advance on previous quotations. We quote as follows -.—Hides : Stout ox, to 6d ; medium, 4fd to 5d ; light, 4jsd to4fd ; cow, to 4fd ; kin, 3fd to4|d ; calf, sound, 5d to cit 3d to 4W ; stags', 2jd to 3£d. SheepskiDS : Finewoollcd in very keen demand, sold at from 4a 9d to 7s Id ; coarse, 3s 9d to ss'6d ; lambs', Is 6d to 2s Id ; pelts, salted, la 4d to Is 7d. Tallow : Best rendered, IPs to £1 Is 6tl : inferior, 16s to 18s. Wool (in bags, etc.) : Crossbred, s|d to 7£d ; pieces, 3*d to 4Ad ; dead, 3id to 5Jd ; locks, lid to 2Ad. Horsehair : Best tail, Is 5d to Is 6d"; cowhair, Is to Is Id ; tails, 2s per dozen. Maize: Inquiries from Sydney have fallen off this week, and only a few parcels were shipped at 2s 8d to 2s BJd ; consequently a large quantity was placed on the local market, and stocks here arc accumulating. There is every appearance of the market weakening still further and little hope of securing late prices again. We would again urge shippers to forward supplies as soon as possible. Oats : Southern market is firmer, prices having risen Id per bushel; nevertheless, stocks hero are heavy, and no alteration has taken place in local quotations. Wc quote : 2s 2d to 2s Id, B and C. Potatoes : Large supplies to hand this week. The market has cased down to £4 for kidneys. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Retort.—Grain, seeds, horsefeed: Operations have been limited. The supply has been more than ample, and prices have been barely maintained in all linns. We quote : Maize, at from 2s 8d to 2s BJd bushel on wharf ; feed oats, 2s 3d to 2s 5d ; braD, £4 ton ; oaten chaff, £1 15s to £2 10s. Horses brought forward in increased numbers, wcro not in brisk demand, and barely maintained the previous week's values. Thcro was about au average number of entries at the Durham Yards on Friday. Competition was good for those of a decent stamp. For heavy draught, at from £l7 10s to £2B 10s each; medium draught, £l4 to £2O; light harness, £4 to £l2 10a; backs, £4 10s to £ls. Cattle : At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday fat stock was yarded in usual number?, and prime quality showed a rise of Is per 1001 b on last week's quotations Wc quote : Oxen, from 17s to 19s 1001 b, very prime reached £1 ; cow, 14s to lCs. Fat steers made from £5 5s to £8 17« 6d each ; cows, £3 5s to £6 12s Gd. Dairy cows, yarded in small numbers, were not wanted, and sold at from £2 153 to £5 10s each. The grown steers advertised averaged £5 2s. Sheep : The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and met a ready sale at late rates. Fat wethers sold at from 9s 6d to 14s 6d each ; fat ewes, 8s 9d to 12s 6d. Lambs, plentiful. Those of quality sold at from Is 9d to 12-s 6d each ; store lambs, 33 3d to 6s 6d. Pigs, scarce : Porkers sold at from 153 to £1 7s 6d each ; weaners, 4s 6d to 8s 9d. Messrs A. Bucklind and Sons Report.—At the Haymarkct fair prices were obtained for wheat straw ; no demand for hay or oat sheaves ; chaff offering in excess of requirement is at lower values ; maize, on wharf, 2s 7d to 2s 8d bushel. On Friday the horses yarded were of light to medium size. Prices ranged from £5 to £l6 ; lady's phaston, £2l; covered vehicle, £7 ; waggonette and harne33. £8 12s 6d. On Tuesday hides and pelts were at improved values. Ox hides, 4d to 4fd ; cow hides, 4d to 4|d ; calfskins, 4d to 5Jd ; horsehair, 9d to Is 4.td lb ; horse hides, 4s 6d to 9s each ; tallow. 143 to 23s 6d cwt; fat, l|d lb ; fresh woolled skins, 4s 6d to 6s 9d ; dry skins, 2s 6d to 4s lid ; pelts, Is to Is 6d ; lambs, Is 4d to 2s each ; wool in bags, 4d to 6Jd ; pieces, 3£d to 3fd lb. At Kcmuera on Thursday dairy cattle, in moderate number, were better worth ; those near calving were from £4 to £5 10s each. The grown steers advertised sold satisfactorily ; prices ranged from £3 7s to £5 7s each ; those hold' over from lust week's sale wer« sold privately at £5 10s each. Fat and young calves, in moderate number, were at late values ; 60 eold. Fat cattle, in full number, and of good quality, sold freely at last week's quotations; choice steers and heifers, from 17s to 19s ; cows, Pis to 16s 100 lb ; steers brought from £5 to £9 ; cows, £3 10s to £6 7s 6d each ; 255 sold. Sheep, in average number, were at last week's values ; wethers, from 9s 3d to 131 ; ewes, 7s 3d to 9s 6d each ; 1200 sold. Lambs, yarded numerously, Kepo their values ; best quality brought fiom 8s to 11a ; inferior, from 6s 6d upwards, 500 sold. Pigs, in full numbers, scarcely kept la3t week's values ; porkers ranged from 143 to £1 9j ; heavy pigs, up to £1 13s each : 103 sold.
