THE EDEN SEAT. The scrutiny of the vot*s recorded in the Eden election concluded on Tuesday afternoon, and in the evening the returning officer attended at the principal polling station at Devonport, opened three seamen's and travellers' votes, aud finally decland the result of the election. The scrutiny resulted in four votes being deducted from each of the candidates, and the seamen's and commercial vravcllers' votes opened last night were two for Mr Bollard and one for Mr Niccol. The returning officer declared the icsult as follows : Bollard 2255 Niccol 2251 Majority for Bollard 4 There were 52 informal votes. Mr Niccol, who was present at the decoration of the poll, holds that if the voting papers, which were informal only on account of the absence of the returning officer's stamp, had been counted, he would have had a majority of two votes. ALer announcing the figures the returning officer declared Mr Bollard elected, he having received a majority of votes. Mr Niccol: He has received them, but, unfortunately, he is not elected by a majority. However, I suppose I must accept it. THE RICCARTON SEAT. The scrutineers sat from nine a.m. until one p.m. on Tuesday. The result is still unsettled, as several disputed points have yet to be decided. It will probably take two or three days before the issue is definite settled.

THE OTAKI SEAT. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'}. Wellington, Last Night. The contest for the Olaki seat will probably be confined to Mr Field and Mr Morrison, who unsuccessfully opposed the late member last weak. Neither Mr Macdonald nor Mr Jellicoe will stand against Mr Field, and Mr W. Ross, of the Lower Hutt, would have been a candidate if Mr Field had not decided to coutcst the seat.
