Ix the Assembly Mr Turner, replying to Mr McLean's motion, said the real sin was the Government had lived too long. Many of those who pushed on Mr McLean had simply been intriguing for office. Nothing would justify the displacement of Mr Trenwith. Voicing the views of the Labour party, he strongly supported the Government. The debate is not yet finished. The Opposition intend, if possible, to force a division before the House rises. Thy claim they have a majority of two. Mr McLean charged the Government with placing business before the House • in a crude condition and wasting time. He coudemr,ed the proposal for sending the Attorney General to Englaud in connection with a law case, the appoiutmeut of Military Commaudant, ind calling publishers before the bar of the House. Sir G. Tamer said as an old friend, Mr McLean should have given him warning of rebutting charges. He said the Government had a record of five years' hard work. He would be glad to lay down the reins, but for one reason, that he had done the principal share of the Federation work, and desired not to leave the settlement of the Federal question in the hands of one who had stumped Victoria and New South Wales in opposition. Mr McLean's motion was carried by 47 to 36. Sir G Turner, in moving for an adjournment, said although the House had no confidence In the Government, he did not think that feeling reflected upon the country. He promised to bring down the Statement when the House met.
