The breeding of his sire, Somuus, need not be eidarged upon, as he descends (through both siro and dam) from that great horse Eclipse, while his dam Shrovetide has the St Aubyn and Mr Hercules strains to recommend her. For extended pedigree see Stud Book. Insomnia, besides winning several races, took first prize in 1895 both at Woodville and Palmerston North Shows, and in 1896 at Hawke's Bay he took second prize in the class best calculated 1o improve the breed of saddle horses, beating Black Rose, Burlington and Leontine. He also took three first prizes at the Bay of Plenty Agricultural Show, 1896. He has, therefore, pot the best of credentials to recommend him for the use if breeders.
