Dr. Hosking at each of his meetings is not sparing in his abuse of this paper. He reiterates the statement that we have misreportcd him, he alludes, we presume, to our report of his speech at Raglan. He forgets to tell his audiences what he did say, and he has not written to us giving the exact words he used, which we of course would have published. He also appears to have forgotten to tell his audiences that a public meeting at Raglan voted that the words attributed to him by our reporter were used. We don't mind a little abuse, particularly when it comes from a man who repudiates his own language. It would be much more creditable to the Rev. Doctor if ho owned up at once. We repeat that he did say at Raglan : " The electorate is far behind what it ought to be. Large sums should have been spent on its roads and bridges and other public works, but unless a Government candidate was returned there would be no change." We wrote that the above. taken with the context of the speech, nviy be fairly interpreted to mean : " You return me for a corrupt reason to Parliament, and I will not go back on my partners in political turpitude." In order that the Doctor may not be troubled to tell his audiences, we repeat, in case some of them may have forgotten, the conclusions we drew from his speech. AVe wrote : "The speech delivered by Dr. Hosking is a disgrace to him, to those who listened to it, and to the whole colony, inasmuch that ik should be possible for a man to put forth sucli rot'enness and not be ignominiously hooted from the platform." There is not a particle of a doubt but that Dr. Hosking used the words we have attributed to him.
