IMPORTANT MEETING OF MAORIS

We publish below the results of a meet- | ing held at Te Kuiti on November 15th to receive an address from Henry Kaihau, M.H.R. for the Western Maori division of the North Island, at which meeting the Maori Kiufij Mahuta and leading chiefs of Waikato and Ngatimaniapoto were present. This proclamation is to the tribes, families, chiefs, public speakers and assemblies resident within the areas of the Kumber 1 circuit. In the first place, salutation, salutation to all. A committee was appointed and Huirama Ituitoto elected Chairman. 1. The selection of a member to represent the Western Devision for the next Parliamentary term. 2. The question of who to be nominated for the seat in the Upper House to represent MahiiU. 3. The subsidy for the King for the ensuing year. 4. The raising a fund to provide tor urgent public necessities. 5. Regulations for tupport of public entertainments (banquets). • 6. Regulations for public meetings. Motion No. 1 : The committee passed a resolution that the member to be nominated for the coming term of years, us notified in the Paki o Matanki, that Henere Kaikau be the member. Motion No. 2 : lu response to the request of King Maliata, that the tribes nominate a person for that seat, the tribes after due consideration were unable to decide upon a person for the seat.
